- Marketing Tip: Give Away Free Information
Jessica Swanson, "The Shoestring Marketer" and free marketing expert discusses why you need to give away free information.
One of the most important mottos in today's marketing world is: Relationships first, sales second.
Unfortunately, too many small business owners believe that if they simply put up a website, the sales will follow. This could not be further from the truth!
Now more than ever, propects and potential clients want to establish a relationship with those who they do business with. They aren't interested in merely being "sold."
As marketers, it is our job to establish this relationship with our clients and customers.
One of the most effective ways to develop this relationship is by offering free information and resources to your customers.
This allows them to get to know you and your business. Of course, the more they know you and trust you, the better chance you have of moving into a business relationship.
There are dozens of ways for you to give away free information. Here is a list of some of my all-time favorites:
1) Write a short, downloadable e-book
2) Write a special report
3) Record an audio class
4) Record a webinar
5) Offer free consultations
6) Offer free trial memberships
7) Record a CD
8) Make a DVD
9) Host a Live Webinar/Teleseminar
10) Host a free, local seminar
Obviously, the possibilities are endless. However, if you understand that offering your clients value and free resources help establish a solid relationships, you will be well on your way to success! ... More info here.
- Marketing Tip: Declare Yourself An Expert!
Jessica Swanson, "The Shoestring Marketer" and free marketing expert discusses why you need to become an expert in your industry.
One of the threads that ties successful individuals together is the fact that they are considered experts in their particular field. They exude leadership qualities that naturally attract a base of loyal followers.
Unfortunately, this concept escapes many individuals who are desperate for success. They feel that they either dont have an area of expertise, they dont have the right qualifications, or they dont possess a formal degree in order to lead a group of people.
The interesting fact is that all experts, at one time or another, simply decided that they were an expert. It really is that simple.
Muhammad Ali, declared himself The Greatest, over and over again until he was perceived as the greatest fighter in the world. He didnt wait until he had won a certain amount of fights, instead he proclaimed that he was The Greatest and went on to prove this fact.
I was a writer marketing my book over the internet. I had very little money and needed to find ways to tap into no-cost marketing strategies. I soon discovered that there were very few products, resources or programs to teach me how to accomplish this. So, I took it upon myself to learn how to market my book for free.
I researched as much as I could from a variety of sources about free marketing. After learning about free marketing and applying free marketing strategies with success, I decided to declare myself a free marketing expert and even named myself and my brand, The Shoestring Marketer.
At one time or another, you will also need to declare yourself an expert. You cant sit around and wait for someone else to do it for you. If you do, you will be sitting around for a very long time!
You need to discover an area within your industry that is in need of expert advice. You will need to take it upon yourself to learn as much as you can about this area. There are so many ways to accomplish this, however, one of my favorites is to log into EzineArticles.com and search for the topic that you need to research.
Then start reading! Thats right, start reading as much as you can about your particular topic. If you take the time to read just 10-15 articles on your particular topic, you will begin to soak up valuable information that will quickly lead to a knowledge base that many others dont possess. It wont be long before you can begin helping others in your industry and dispense valuable advice.
You can turn your knowledge into a special report, short e-book or 10-day e-course. The main objective is to offer others a sample of your knowledge base.
Once you declare yourself an expert, package your knowledge and offer it to others, you will be surprised how quickly you will develop a group of followers that are eager to learn from you! ... More info here.
- 10 Marketing Myths That Will Destroy Your Business
Jessica Swanson, "The Shoestring Marketer," and free marketing expert discusses 10 common myths that exist about marketing.
Did you know that 95% of all businesses failures are caused by the simple fact that the business spends more than it makes?
In addition, it goes without saying that in our current economic conditions, business owners need to be more careful about their spending than ever before.
But, here's the great news: there are proven ways to build your business without spending a dime. In fact, there are hundreds of marketing strategies that you can tap into immediately to realize massive results!
But, beware! What you need to realize is that you are embarking on a journey that goes against much of what you have heard about traditional marketing.
10 Common Marketing Myths
1. You need to spend money to make money. Nonsense! In order to succeed in the world of business, Shoestring Marketers must invest time, energy and creativity. But, they do NOT need to spend money.
2. You need to possess a degree in marketing to succeed. Shoestring marketers do not necessarily have marketing degrees, college degrees or even high school degrees. All it takes to succeed is passion and perserverence.
3. Your marketing ends once you have made the sale. Shoestring marketers understand that the absolute best marketing occurs with existing customers. Research clearly suggests that your current customers are 10x more likely to purchase from you again and will cost you nothing in marketing dollars!
4. You must compete fiercely with your competition. Shoestring marketers understand that competition only leads to stress and failure. Instead, you must be aware of your competitors in order to engage in joint ventures and other shared marketing efforts.
5. Marketing is showcasing you and your company. Im sorry to tell you this, but Shoestring Marketers understand that prospective clients and customers dont care about you or your company. Prospective customers only care about themselves and how your company can help solve or alleviate their problems.
6. Marketing interrupts the customer. The days of interruption marketing are quickly coming to a close. Todays consumers are not responding to traditional TV ads, radio ads and internet ads that interrupt what they are doing. Shoestring marketers realize that marketing is all about developing a relationship with the customer. The Shoestring Marketers motto is: relationships first, sales second.
7. Marketing is taking from the customer. The Shoestring Marketer understands that marketing is about giving value to your prospective and current customers. Shoestringers are always thinking about what they can give away for free: downloadable e-books, reports, webinars, seminars, etc.
8. Marketing is aimed at a large group of prospects. This type of thinking is a huge mistake. In order to succeed in todays marketplace you must aim for a small, targeted group of prospects. The smaller the group, the easier it will be for your marketing campaign.
9. Marketing is about how much money you have made at the end of the month. The Shoestring Marketer understands that making a profit is extremely important to business success. (And making a big profit is great as well!) But, if you are truly going to succeed in your marketing efforts, you will be interested in how many new relationships you have developed at the end of the month.
10. Marketing is about having 5 solid marketing strategies. As a business owner you cant depend on a small handful of marketing strategies to grow your business. In fact, with hundreds of great marketing strategies, Shoestring Marketers need to use as many as possible to gain massive exposure.
If you are going to become a world-class Shoestring Marketer, then it is essential to your business success that you understand these 10 marketing myths. Once you shift your marketing mindset, your business will catapult to the top! ... More info here.
- Recycle Your Free Marketing Efforts
Marketing expert, Jessica Swanson, aka "The Shoestring Marketer" discusses how to recycle your marketing efforts.
One of the secrets that Jessica teaches in terms of time-management is the idea of recycling your efforts. Obviously, there is only so much time in a day. The most successful business owners are very efficient and work smart (not necessarily hard).
Here is an example of how you could easily recycle your efforts.
Perhaps you decide to write an article. So you pick a topic and write a short, 300 word article. You post the article to an ezine directory and then watch with glee as the article is picked up by Google and appears in the search engines. As a result, your article receives quite a few views and brings loads of visitors to your website.
Perhaps most individuals would stop at that point. Not you! Now you will begin the process of recycling that article and using it in many different ways. Here is a list of how you could reuse that article to bring even more visitors to your website:
1) Turn the article into a script and film a video and post it on YouTube.
2) Tweak the article and post it on your blog.
3) Use the article in your ezine.
4) Tweak the article and use it in your email campaign.
5) Rearrange the article and submit a press release.
6) Post the article on your website.
7) Host a free webinar on that topic for your email list.
The point is that you want to make sure to get as much possible mileage out of that original article as necessary. This is crucial for business success! The last thing that you would want to do is to submit an article, then write an entirely different blog post, tape a YouTube video from scratch, etc.
Smart, and often time-crunched, business owners we need to use our time as efficiently as possible. Recycling your ideas is one of the most efficient ways to get more done in less time! ... More info here.
