I'm proud to say that, for the most part, I've worked hard and improved. I'm usually prompt for appointments these days, and I'm much more aware and deliberate about my commitments and decisions. I do have occasional relapses, but I'm pretty good at catching myself before things get too far out of hand. Sometimes, though, I find myself delaying and postponing a project launch or completion, a meeting, or an action that can have a huge ripple effect. When this happens, I become concerned about falling back into my old habits. I wonder if I am once again resisting my own success, or rejecting potentially beneficial opportunities. I've come to realize that, although occasional deferral can still be a mild form of my old chronic self-sabotage, more often it's a signal that the fruit of my creativity is not yet fully ripe. When I trust my instincts and intuition, and give my ideas and intentions more room to percolate, I usually get better results. Concepts are sharper and more fully realized, structures and flow make more sense, programs fit together more neatly into the big picture. And, sometimes, when I don't beat myself up, and allow delay to be my friend, it helps me reassess the timing on certain critical decisions and actions. Take a step back and look more closely at what you're calling procrastination. Trust your instincts. What's really going on? Do you just need more time to percolate? *************************************************************** Conditions are never just right. People who delay action until all factors are favourable do nothing. -- William Feather I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by. -- Douglas Adams A rock pile ceases to be a rock pile the moment a single man contemplates it, bearing within him the image of a cathedral. -- Antoine de Saint-Exupery The act of contemplation creates the thing contemplated. -- Isaac D'israeli What we plant in the soil of contemplation we shall reap in the harvest of action. -- Meister Eckhart An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. An inconvenience is only an adventure wrongly considered. -- G. K. Chesterton
