Rules, laws -- so many of them. Even when trying my hardest, I still mess up and forget some of the biggies. It lends a feeling of pure hopelessness.

Heck, why try? You can't meet His expectations anyway. You're going to sin, to fail, to fall. Why not just go ahead and do what you want and just let the chips fall where they may? You'll never measure up to what God demands.

Or can you?

What if everything written above was a twisted lie -- straight from the enemy's bag of tricks? What if God's love was so enormous that He desires and enjoys being with you, without your having to meet even one tiny expectation? What if the word condemnation isn't in His vocabulary?

What if all He required was for you to come to Him, share your life, your concerns, your hopes and dreams with Him? What if He just wanted to be with you, enjoy you, love you? He'd just hold you close like His little girl or boy and laugh and sing and delight to be in your presence.

Blasphemy? Hardly. God is pure love, and not just a small laser-like dot of love either. His love for us is not only completely pure and safe, but higher than the heavens are above the earth. Take a look at the NASA website next time you have a chance. That's pretty much immeasurable. We don't even have a clue how many galaxies and universes He has created.

Love like that defies description. We can't love like Him because we're humans. So it's out of our brain cell range to expect someone to love us immeasurably. In order to believe it, to experience it, we have to be in His presence.

Imagine the joy and exhilaration of spending time with Love immeasurable. A place where you are treasured more than a mother and father could treasure their newborn baby. Arms-open-wide for you, all the time. And when you come to the place of Love, no matter what you've done, no matter how dirty you are or how pathetically you stink, you're met with unbridled joy and delight. In fact, every time you arrive in His presence, He throws a party in your honor.

Love dances with delight just to see your face at the door. Your depression or emotion doesn't inhibit the delight. How badly you've just messed up can't affect the depth of pleasure on the face of Love -- just to know that you're here means everything to Him. Love doesn't need you to be perfect to enjoy you. Love adores you just like you are, every moment of every day and night. Love waits beside you in the mornings, watching for you to wake up so He can shower blessings on you. Love longs to hear you say "Good morning." God dances with joy when He hears your voice. His heart takes off into orbit when you say, "I love You, Abba."

Love thrills to your sharing your heart, encourages deeper intimacy and openness so that you can experience even greater delight. Love has one goal -- that you know how much you're cherished, how no sacrifice would be too great just for the opportunity to hold you close.

In the presence of Love, you are so conscious of the purity, that you desire to be like Him. You desire with all your heart to love like Him. You are free from expectations. Free to make mistakes. In the presence of such wonderful acceptance and delight, you are free to grow and blossom into your perfect destiny.

There's no safer or more joyful place to be than in the presence of Love. In the presence of Jesus Himself.

In contrast, the enemy of your soul has twisted, ugly desires for you. His goal is that you spend forever writhing in pain and agony. It's hard for us to imagine, but his hate for us is deeper than the ocean, larger than the solar system. Watching you suffer, seeing your tears, knowing you're depressed and in anguish -- this causes his feet to dance and his voice to raise in derisive laughter. The more pain you have, the better. He delights to destroy your children, to murder relationships, to lie to you and steal all the joy and love he can from your heart. No level is too low for the enemy to steep to take life from you.

The last thing in the world that the enemy wants is for you to think that God could be safe and loving. He fights with pure hatred to cause you to feel condemned and unworthy in God's eyes. Then you won't even want to be with Him, and you'll never experience pure love. Ha, ha, ha! That's the goal. Let's leave you abused and shamed, humiliated and abandoned. Then you'll never believe that God could be loving. You'll think He caused all the evil and blame Love Himself for the pain.

Nothing makes the enemy happier than to strip you of all hope.

The truth is that God only asks that you, as best as you can at any given moment, to let Him help you live life in Love. He knows we grow a little at a time. He designed us that way so we wouldn't get overwhelmed. His requirements are so miniscule. He desires you to see that you can't live life to the fullest on your own, that you are sinful and need Him to save you from yourself. He wants you to say, "God, I want You, Pure Love, to be my Leader. I will follow You."

He wants you to share your heart with Him and grow in the deepest purest intimacy with Him. And that just takes a willingness on your part. No need to take a bath or dress up with jewelry or spray some cologne on. Just come as you are and enjoy His delight in you. Simply say, "As best as I can, I give myself to You." And then He shows you greater levels of pure love as you're able to experience them.

Love is the perfect Gentleman, never desiring to overwhelm you or harm you. He doesn't demand or take anything from you without your express permission. Love is the safest place to be. Love wants so much life for you, that He fights the enemy on your behalf. That He shows you in advance how to smash the enemy's plans against you.

Love can't be described fully, because He's bigger than all our imaginations put together. More enormous and glorious than all our dreams and desires combined. Nothing exists that you could ever want outside of the heart of Love.

Skeptical that such wonder could exist? I understand. Our minds are too small to believe. But if we take one step toward Love, one tiny molecule of a step, He will show us delight, astonishing safety and the greatest fulfillment we could ever want. You can't make any of it happen on your own. You don't have to worry or think of formulas or strategies to be a better person. Just take one little step closer to Love, and surrender to His purity. As you're able. Gradually, only as you're willing. Remember, He's the perfect gentleman. He will never take anything that you're not willing to freely give to Him.

Do you dare to stop the treadmill of life for a moment, be alone with such an indescribable Being, and say, "Show me Your Love"? Perhaps the better question would be, "Do you dare not to?"
