Creating Online Visibility That Rocks
|
Linda would probably tell you that fleshing out her Internet visibility is a key ingredient in her plan to access the growing number of online buyers. If you're thinking the same way, then conducting your own "online viz push" should be part of your marketing plan. The first thing to know is, that while creating Internet visibility isn't costly (most resources are free), you will need to invest a little bit of time. Also, once you start the ball rolling, you need to keep it rolling. The best place to start getting visible is where you can get the fastest results . . . and that would be to build profiles on "full monty sites." A "full monty" site is a web site that hosts a free listing or profile page as a center point of visibility for your business. There will also be several features that will allow you to create additional and separate avenues of visibility on the same site. You may be offered a blog, photo and/or video gallery, or newsletter template. As an example, one especially comprehensive site is www.merchantcircle.com, which includes all of the offerings above and more, at no cost. The MerchantCircle listing page will allow you to include a direct link to your own web site, should you have one. And, if you don't have a site, the visibility you can create on MerchantCircle will completely suffice as your primary site. On MerchantCircle, you'll find a means for collecting your customer e-mail addresses with group segmentation and a distribution feature for your newsletter. Your basic newsletter template will allow you to click a button, which will insert the most recent post from your MerchantCircle blog. Another click will insert a coupon you've created from a template on MerchantCircle. Like most "full monty" sites now, no high-tech skill is required. What is pretty amazing about MerchantCircle is that probably within a day or so of either claiming your listing (or creating one) on their site, a link to your MerchantCircle listing will show up on the first page of search results for your name or business name. This site is regularly visited by Google and Yahoo, and you'll be able to see your own Google, Yahoo, and general traffic statistics on your "dashboard" page. In the Realtor's® case, her MerchantCircle listing often shows up as a second link to her when someone conducts a Google search for waterfront properties or homes in her service communities, allowing her to claim more visibility, while other agents may only have one link. Of course, networking is a big part of any of these Internet marketing vehicles, and they make it easy by offering a format for doing so. This keeps the traffic high and the search engines visiting, which, in turn, gets you the visibility, so be as social as you'd like. A final interesting aspect to MerchantCircle, and some similar sites, is that every individual bit of visibility you create gets you a separate search engine result for your business. So, when you write a well-titled blog posting or put up a coupon, you'll see links to those, as well as a link to your listing page, in search results for your business . . . so, instead of one link, you'll have three. Claiming that first scroll of results when someone conducts a search for your business name enhances your competitive edge by leaps and bounds. Sites like MerchantCircle can help you in that effort quickly and easily. Here are a few additional "full-monty" sites to explore: www.squidoo.com, http://geocities.yahoo.com/gcp/, www.amazon.com, and www.home.live.com .
