Be Positive It's a real slam to the ego to be told your job is being phased out, or that they don't need you anymore. Last week you were working through your lunch hour to get everything done, and now, suddenly, you're not important. It's happened to me more than once, and yet, in most cases, something better was waiting right around the corner. Once I got over the shock, instead of crying hysterically, I thought about how this time off would give me time to re-evaluate what I wanted. It also gave me time to accomplish some things that needed to be done while I had the time available. I pulled out my calendar, blocked out time to search for a job, but also blocked out time for things I needed to do for myself. Some of those things included rejuvenating myself by going to lunch with a friend who'd been neglected because I was working too much. I cleaned closets, painted rooms, and spent more time with my family. I kept a healthy, positive attitude, and when the right job came along, I was ready to put my "vacation" behind me and get back to work.
