Always be upfront with your customers. Don't make promises you can't keep just because you're trying to be a nice guy. Be honest and tactful. Speak sincerely. Smile. If you're feeling like your personality needs an extreme makeover, read some books on emotional intelligence and relating with others. Listen to tapes on relationships. Don't make excuses like, "Oh, that's just the way I am. They can take me or leave me." Whoa -- there's the quickest route to bankruptcy I ever heard. Your customers typically have had some unsavory experiences dealing with businesses, mostly satisfactory experiences, and next to no above and beyond experiences. All you have to do is treat your customer with genuine kindness and generosity, and you'll win them completely over. You'll be the brilliant rarity. The beacon that brings them back. Be loving and genuinely caring from the start, and you'll find even your critics softening. Create a burgeoning bank account by creating trusting relationships.
