Have you ever had a load of Sour Laundry?by Debbye Cannon Send Feedback to Debbye Cannon timeMore Details about time here.
You see, I don't think that life has to be hard. In fact, I despise the bumper stickers that say "My kid is a HARD worker at BLAH BLAH school." I think it is a very negative mindset to think we have to work HARD. It comes from the old Puritan work ethic (which in general I am not opposed to). But I preferred to encourage my children, business associates and clients to "work smart, not hard". That's how I became the SMARTcut(TM) Expert with a reputation for thinking of ways that living "Outside the box"can simplify life! Life is too busy, full and complicated. So why not find some ways to simplify? Are you with me? Let me give you just an example of what I mean. Now, standing alone, it may not sound too life changing, but added with other SMARTcuts(TM) these DO produce results. Bit by bit and little by little you will see life smooth out and feel free and easy. One plague of the BusinessMom is the constricted feeling of "no time". Haven't you caught yours self saying, "I'd love to, but I don't have time." or "When I have some time I will ...blah, blah, blah". The bottom line is we DO have time....it's really more about how we chose to master it. You and I both know we waste a good deal here and there...looking for misplaced stuff, re-doing work that wasn't done right the first time, etc. So here's a tip. Start using a plain ole' kitchen timer. Mine is digital and will clip to my clothes so I don't run away and leave it somewhere! Set your timer when you're doing laundry so you don't forget to move the wet clothes to the dryer (aka "I have to re-wash this load). Set the timer when you are on the phone to be conscious of the time you let fly out of your day. Set it when you are surfing through email (I call email quick sand!). Set it when you are hooked on social networking or anything else consuming your day. Set it to remind you to stop what you are doing and get ready for a call, appointment or project (like starting dinner on time!). Oh, and don't forget to set it to reserve some time to take a well-desrved nap or bubble bath too! Have you got some tool that you use a little unconventionally? I'd love to know your trade secrets too!
