During our last session we were exploring the characteristics of his ideal business relationships -- the most important traits of the people he'd like to attract and work with. One of the top items on his list was a quality he called 'wide ears'. Someone with wide ears, he explained, is open to and delights in many different types of musical and artistic expression. What would it be like to approach life with wider ears -- and eyes, and hearts, and minds? Perhaps we could learn to accept a little more easily the simultaneous joys and sorrows, challenges and simplicities, action and surrender that is a full life. Consciously cultivating a wider heart and soul can help me better navigate the ebb and flow of my excitement in my increasing business success, the challenge of managing the fuller work load said success brings, the joy in my upcoming 25th wedding anniversary and the ever present sadness that the relentless progression of my Dad's Alzheimer's disease brings to all of us in my family. Deciding to have a wider perspective might help those on opposite sides of the political spectrum move just a bit closer to finding some common ground and workable solutions. Choosing a wider definition of love could deepen and broaden our circle of friends and show us how to become more involved in creating and sustaining communities that nurture us all. Becoming more open to a wider variety of entertainment and cultural experiences could expand our awareness and belief in our own and others' capabilities and options. And so on.... Where in you life could cultivating 'wider ears' be most beneficial and evolutionary? What first steps could you take today to begin?
