Feature Articles: The realization of what is to come from what I've read in the headline news lately tells it all. "More Americans Raid Nest Eggs Early", Many Doctors Plan to Quit or Cut Back", "Mortgage Bail-Out Affects Everyone", and "Stock Market Drops Nine Percent in a Day" are just a few and there are more to come. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but our country seems to be sliding into a more government controlled environment. With the Federal Communications Commission taking control of the television (HDTV), telephone (more cell phone regulation), radio (fairness doctrine) and the mortgage companies (even the auto industry) being bought out by the federal government as well, there seems to be a sinking feeling of socialism creeping into our society. Some think it's already here. With the answer from President-elect Obama telling "Joe the Plumber" "we want to redistribute the wealth", we have to wonder what that really means. I remember way back in sixth grade when I was taught how to remember the economic structures in society by remembering the anecdote of the cows. It helps to understand how different economic structures work. You have two cows. You give one to your neighbor: Socialism. You have two cows. The state takes both and gives you some milk: Communism. You have two cows. The state takes both and sells you some milk: Fascism. You have two cows. The state takes both and shoots you: Nazism. This next one I didn't remember. You have two cows. The state takes both, shoots one, milks the other and then throws the milk away: Bureaucratism. Then the best situation of all: You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull: Capitalism. Hold on to your hats everyone because the country is sliding towards socialism and there are many who think it's the answer to all our economic problems. I don't know about you but I would much rather redistribute the wealth by buying merchandise and services from my own pocketbook than to let the government take my money and give it to those they think would deserve it. We need to wake up sometime in the future and try our best to keep capitalism from leaving the United States. Maybe a kick in the teeth is what we need to awaken our senses. One could only wonder.
