According to PhoCus Wright Research, the US travel market is growing at the slowest rate since 2003 -- but the point is, it's still growing steadily. Their 2008 report surmised that, "The overall U.S. travel market is expected to increase by 2 percent in 2010" Additionally, the percentage of people booking online has increased. Recent studies suggest that 86% of small business travel is booked online (e-Marketer) and that 84% of leisure travel is booked online (TIA). Given the economic pinch, 68% of hoteliers will shift their budgets from traditional advertising to a Travel Marketing Company instead.
Travel marketing budgets, on average, will increase: 5.5% for web redesign, 3.8% for website optimization, 3.8% for strategic link building, 2.3% for video/blogging/social media networking, 1.6% for email marketing programs and 0.5% for Travel Marketing. By contrast, pay-per-click advertising and paid inclusion will decrease 1.5% and banner ads will decrease 1.8%.
