I think a better word for "ownership" is "stewardship" because God owns this land and He's been kind enough to let us live on it for a spell. With stewardship comes responsibility. The county sends us the tax bill every year. If the grass is to be cut, our family must do it. But also with that responsibility comes blessings -- such as the ability to plant gardens and reap harvests. Stewardship means both responsibility and blessings. I learned that quickly when local horse breeders put quarter horses on our property a few years ago. We didn't own the horses, just let them reside on our property. I quickly saw that the breeder had responsibilities. He had to make sure the horses were properly cared for, fed, and watered. The horses tended to have flies and that required maintenance. They had babies and that meant work. In the end, I realized I enjoyed looking at and petting those horses, but I was grateful I wasn't the one having to keep up with their maintenance. I was blessed by their existence without owning them. Without stewardship for these horses, I didn't have some perks. I couldn't ride them when I wanted to. They weren't mine to do with as I pleased. But they still blessed my life. I felt "rich" for their being here. All of us are "rich" -- even the person who owns the least possessions is still "rich." Each person has the gifts of life, time, talents, and the ability to enjoy this beautiful world that God has given us. Think about the things in your life that you don't own but that you enjoy. Count those blessings. Be grateful for all the abundance that surrounds you is there without price and without expectations. As you begin to count those blessings -- the air you breathe, the sunsets you watch, the earth that is so beautiful -- you activate more blessings in your life and more blessings will flow to you as a result. My challenge for you today is to get outside and walk in nature. You don't have to own it. Find a public park and enjoy it. And while you're there, pour out your heart in grateful thanks to the God who has blessed you with the air you breathe and the beauty of His creations. Do this regularly and soon you'll unlock true abundance that is hanging like ripe fruit just over your head.
