Even though the site may say "free photo stock images" on the homepage, it's still up to you to look through the terms of use to make absolutely certain that the photos you want are indeed copyright-free. Some photographers and artists offer free use of their work to site visitors; others ask for a simple email to let them know their work is being used. Still other photographers ask for a byline beside their photos. These terms are easily met, and are a small price to pay for use of a professional photograph. To find hundreds of free image sites, simply search online for "free photos for commercial use", "copyright-free images for commercial use", or "royalty free photo stock images". It will take a little research to find that perfect picture, as public domain sites usually don't have as vast a selection as the mega-photo sites. But you'll be amazed at the number of high-quality images photographers have donated to the public domain. Also, many United States government sites offer maps and images in the public domain. You can find free photo stock images of national parks, wildlife, and landscapes and anatomy as well as historical prints and photographs. Large museums (such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art) often sell reprints at their sites, and some public domain sites will ask a small fee for using their pictures -- from twenty cents to a dollar. Still, you can usually find the perfect images for your business at no cost online. Whatever your business need -- brochures, power points, projects, infoproducts -- you can find thousands of free photo stock images that you can use without the worry of infringing on someone's copyright. There's little need to pay for photos, even those for commercial purposes.
