A spider spins a web from its own body, having its own internal source to draw upon. Spiders demonstrate that we can find our own connection to life from within. In all of nature the power lies within. A flower, a tree, a seed doesn't look outside itself for what it is. The very basis of its life is expressed from the core of its beingness. As a seed sprouts and grows, its true nature is revealed. The seed surrenders to what it's meant to become.

Learning to trust our quiet inner voice, that urges us to be what we are, is harder for us humans who have "input" coming from many different directions during a day. Do we believe our friends, family, co-workers, or heaven forbid - the media, about who we are and what we should be doing with our lives? Or do we dare trust ourselves and those feelings that are gently nudging us to follow a different direction altogether?

In 1995, I was working for a large corporation. I was making a good salary as a 1st level manager. I had been with the company for 24 years. I was also one of those people who you hear saying, "I can't leave this job. I have bills to pay and I'm getting six weeks of vacation!" My husband, Bill, and I were living the great American dream, which included more debt than we were comfortable with at the time. As a result, we were looking at other ways to make extra money in our "after work" hours. We had high hopes that our after work income would eventually allow us to leave our day jobs.

Bill and I were both employed by the same company. The management of this company decided that our after work business was creating a conflict of interest with our regular jobs. They gave us both an ultimatum, quit our extra business, or be fired. Needless to say, this was an extremely anxious and stressful time for both of us. The really interesting thing about this time of my life, and the reason I'm telling you this story, is because even though we were in debt and would be losing our steady paychecks, through the whole process I had this deep inner knowing that I had to leave that company and trust that everything would work out in the end. My friends and co-workers had no conceptual understanding of the choice I made. But I knew I had to trust that quiet inner voice urging me to go out and create a happier life, without the constraints on my freedom to live as I pleased. And so I listened... And I found my inner power, which allowed me to live a life I had only dreamed about up to that point. It has been very, very tough at times, emotionally and spiritually. But those are stories to be shared later...

You have that inner power too! One way to access that power is by being grateful for what you already have. How could that give you the power to get more of what you want? When you're grateful for what you have, this tells your mind that you're open to receive even more. When you are grateful for what hasn't appeared yet, your subconscious mind goes about creating it for you, since your subconscious mind doesn't know the difference between what is here and now and what it sees in your mind. On the other hand, if you keep thinking about what you don't have, the universe will keep giving you just what you're thinking about, which is not having what you want! So, practice using your power by giving thanks, developing an attitude of gratitude, and looking for the signs to follow that will lead you to your heart's desire.
