Why Bother with FFA Page Advertising?by Brian Rooney Send Feedback to Brian Rooney Internet AdvertisingMore Details about Internet Advertising here.
FFA stands for "Free For All" and an FFA Page is basically a page that anyone and everyone can add a link to for free. The practice of adding your link to any FFA Page is referred to as "posting". FFA Page owners invite the world to come and post a link to their FFA Page. Why would an advertiser post their link to an FFA Page? Some people believe that it helps increase their web site's popularity. The reality is that most of the larger search engines treat FFA Pages like a "link farm" and they give less value or may even penalize your site for posting your URL to any FFA Page. Search engines prefer what they consider "quality links". And a page full of nothing but links doesn't really add any value to their directories. Some people actually believe that a human will see their link once it's been posted to an FFA page. The reality is that it's possible that a human will view the FFA Page, but not likely. And most FFA Pages I've seen only hold your link for a few minutes at best. So the chance of your link getting seen by a human is pretty slim. So why do people advertise on FFA Pages? Most of the time, it comes down to budget. FFA Pages are free to advertise on and don't take any real time commitment. You could get lucky as an advertiser. I've had a few times where I could see that my link on an FFA page brought me a visitor or two. But where is the real power in FFA Pages? Hosting an FFA Page. You may have run across the term: "Host. Don't Post." Hosting an FFA Page means you have your own FFA Page where you offer the opportunity for other business owners and web masters to post a free link. How do you benefit? Every time someone posts a link to your FFA Page, your system sends out a full text ad. The ad can be anything you want it to be, of course. But this sort of ad always works best when you offer something to webmasters or businesses that is directly related to helping them increase sales or promoting more effectively. I host my own FFA Page and it gets hundreds of links added to it every single day. Of those, anywhere from 1 to 4 people will click on the link in my ad to check out my offer. Over the course of a year, that is hundreds of new targeted visitors for my offer. So if you were to ask me if I like FFA Pages, I would have to say "yes" and "no". I won't spend any time posting my links to any FFA Page. But I do have my own FFA Page so that I can send my ad out to all those advertisers that DO post links to FFA Pages. Which side of that equation would you like to be on? The side where you get one text link in the middle of hundreds of other text links? Or the side that gets to send a full text ad directly to someone's email box? So if you're thinking about using FFA Pages, remember: Host! Don't Post!
