But what is all the fuss about? Should you be worried? What is Twitter? Twitter is what is called micro-blogging. You basically send message of only 140 characters to your followers and they can communicate back to you. I love twitter . . . ..it is simple, easy to use and you get instant feedback and that is most likely why the teens like it too. Is twitter anything to worry about for parents? Personally, I think that as long as you have discussed internet safety with your teenager then no, as the pros far outweigh the cons. You can easily get a message to everyone in your Twitter Gang and communicate back with them, so great for organising your next get-together with your mates or even getting your voice out there -- it is like texting on the computer, In fact, it is texting on steroids, which is perhaps what is so appealing about it for young people . . . . About 25 percent of Twitter usage constitutes the under 25's age group although, I have to say, I personally think that Twitter is too mainstream now for youth and they may just stick to MSN, which despite its limitations, still appears to be in my experience their favourite medium. Should Parents be worried? In my opinion, not at all; Twitter is fun. Fast and furious but hardly ever dangerous. You choose who you follow and can block people very easily. The information you give out about yourself is very minimal and you control what can be seen to a certain extent. Also, the fact that everyone communicates in 140 characters or less means brevity is the key, so most communication is precise and to the point -- not much flowery language, if you know what mean. The only way anyone can really connect with you is if you give them your details and allow them to. Tweets, as they are called, are visible to everyone, so they tend not to be that personal and although you can get direct messages, they too can only be 140 characters. In my opinion, Twitter is one of the safer social networking sites due to the open and sharing nature of it. It is a friendly community that tends to police itself in my opinion. So don't be scared of Twitter. Jump in, have a go and see for yourself why your child may be obsessed with it!

Do What They Want and Get Involved By getting involved with what your children want to do, not what dad wants to or feels is best for them. The smile on their face will make it all worth it to you. I did not want my children to ride BMX as it can be a tough sport. My daughter broke her collar bone this past year in a race. But to see them smile and also automatically excelling in their school grades, I am happy I allowed them to do what they really wanted to do. Then don’t sit back rather go and partake by watching or even assisting in whatever they choose. You will not only bond with them, changing their lives for the better, but they will change yours for the better as well.
