Blogstream Blog Review
Setup I’ve already eluded to how easy it is to setup up a blog using Blogstream. Create an account, pick a category, and start posting. It’s really that easy.
Profile After you create an account, you can update your profile with more details. You’ll enter information like user name, whether you want to be contacted by others or not, your favorite links, 100 things interesting things, and your interests/hobbies. These are critical for searching later.
Layout While you don’t have the option for changing the layout, I know it is possible because many blogstream bloggers have done just that. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you how. You will find the default layout is clean, clear, easy to read and has everything you really need. If you like simple, this is a good choice.
Publishing When you click “post message”, you get a window to type your message. It’s easy. There’s even some cute little emoticons you can easily add to your writing to liven things up and make it fun. While I didn’t notice an email-to-post feature, posting through the standard method above is easy enough.
One thing I really like about posting to Blogstream is the formatting. There’s virtual NO EXTRA FORMATTING required! When I write my messages in Microsoft Word and copy/paste into Blogstream, I don’t have to reformat it to make it post nicely. Most of the other blog tools required some kind of reformatting. With Blogstream your post is beautiful the first time you paste it in. That’s another time saver!
Comments One of the things I really like about blogging, is the comments. After posting a message, your readers have the option to post a comment about what you wrote. If you’re looking for feedback or just enjoy chatting with others, this is a wonderful feature. You can control the comments, if you do not want others comments appearing on your blog. That’s nice to know.
Links If you find helpful website links out there, you can easily share them by adding them in your profile, so they appear in the right hand column. There’s also “Blogs I like” section, where you can share other blogs you’ve discovered. To make a blog appear in that list, all you do it click the “bookmark” option. When you bookmark someone’s blog, they’re much more likely to bookmark your blog and that’s helpful for increasing traffic to your blog.
Search Much like the other blog packages, to find others with your same interests you can click on the “100 interesting things” or the “interests/hobbies” lists. Say you have the word “books” in your hobbies list. When you click on “books” it provides a list of other blogs who have “books” in their profile. You can also search by category, by author, by last post date and more. I really like the ability to search by last post date, because it saves time. When you’re looking to connect with others, you want to know they’ve been posting recently, otherwise, they might not see your message right away. Having all these ways to search is very convenient, although it can be time consuming to read all the search results!
Statistics On the main page of your blog by default, they offer a site counter that provides you the number times someone has visited your blog. That’s helpful and part of the package, no extra steps are needed. Thanks, Blogstream!
Syndication Blogstream automatically converts your posts into Real Simple Syndication (RSS) and XML formats for syndication purposes. If you want to share your blog with webmasters who need content for their sites, offer them your RSS or XML feed.
