10 Ways to Organize Your Bathroom

We typically spend the beginning of the day and the end of the day in the bathroom. Why not make is a restful and inviting haven? Here are 10 great ways to organize your bathroom.

1. Throw it out! Look in your bathroom cabinet. Throw out anything with an expired date and all perishables over a year old; over-the-counter products, medicines, prescriptions, toiletries, and cosmetics. Even toothpaste expires; the expiration date is on the crimp of the tube.

2. Think Feng Shui! Clutter in the bathroom robs the bathroom of its chi or energy. Examples of bathroom clutter: full waste bins, empty bottles and toothpaste tubes, unnecessary soap dishes, unpolished mirrors, out-of-date medication, untried cosmetic samples and bath oils and perfumes which are never used.

3. Magnetize it! Attach a long, straight magnet to the back of your medicine chest to neatly hold scissors, tweezers, clippers, shavers and other metal objects.

4. Clean it! After using the bathroom every morning, run a disposable cleaning wipe over the sink and toilet. This will greatly reduce the amount of clean-up needed on a weekly basis.

5. Eliminate clutter! Use caddies in the shower and tub. Store bath toys in a nylon mesh bag and hang from your tub or shower caddy. Install hooks, rods, or rings near the sink for hanging washcloths and hand towels.

6. Add storage! Use a ladder towel rack which holds lots of towels. Put hand towels in a small wicker basket or a wooden wine rack. They are handy and decorative.

7. Color-coordinate towels and washcloths, assigning a different color to each family member. That way, everyone will know who leaves theirs in a pile on the floor and how many they have out at one time.

8. Use a Lazy Susan under the sink to hold cleaning products and move items from back to front with ease.

9. Stock up! Keep two bath mats per bathroom so they can be changed at least once a week.

10. Prepare for guests! Keep extra basic toiletries such as soap, shampoo and conditioner, and hand or body lotion for your guests. You may also want to add to this list a hair dryer, an unused toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss, and air freshener.
