Good Morning, I have an exciting message that I have learned recently and I wanted to share it with you today. You know, sometimes, we know things, but we really do not know. I have been really struggling, trying to quit smoking, running back to my cigarettes, quitting again and back and forth for a couple of years now. I know I need to quit because I love my kids and want them to be proud that mom overcame and made right choices, I want to quit for my husband who gets so stressed when I get sick, knowing the whole time that it is because I continue to smoke that is causing the bulk of the problem but most of all, for my Father God who says that He has delivered me if I choose to believe it. Every time, I fall away, I get so depressed and so ashamed of myself, feeling like I am hopeless case and felling like my Father God is letting me down because he is not helping me to loose the craving and loose the strong urge that makes me feel I can not survive one more minute without my cigarette. A couple of weeks ago, as I was talking about this with God and saying God, I really want to obey you in this, but I do not know how to let go of this thing. I started looking at all the reasons I smoke. They have been my comfort when I was sad, they have been my security when I am scared, they have been my friend when I did not want a friend. I have put the cigarettes in the place that God should be and then wonder why He is not helping me. Jesus said in Matthew 9:12 On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I realized, I am thinking that I am okay and this is one of those things that God just can't help me with. I am not sick, I can do this but I am not depending on God to help me. I am not letting the great physician do the work that He needs to do in my heart to make me well so that I can be free. Jesus said, He is my friend, He is leaving me the Holy Spirit who will be my counselor and my comforter. Jesus said, that I am his friend if I obey His commands. All the things that cigarettes have been to me, I have scripture that promises that Jesus is all of those things to me instead. I started to talk to Jesus, thank you Jesus for being my friend, thank you Jesus for being my counselor, thank you Jesus that you came to heal me of my sickness, I confess today, I am sick and hopelessly addicted and I have proved that there is no way I will ever, in my own strength lay them down. I started talking to the cigarettes, you are no longer my friend. You are from the devil coming to still, kill and destroy my life. I do not like you anymore and I do not want you in my life. On September 4th, on my way home from work, I felt a sensing, it is time. I put out the last half smoked cigarette and said okay, you are the last one. That half smoked cigarette has been in the ashtray every since then. Today, one more time, I am saying I am free. This time though, it is different. I feel peace, I do not feel anxious, I am not obsessed with the fact that I have not had a cigarette and I am not nervous or jittery like before. This time, I believe that Jesus is walking with me through this process and this time, I feel confident, I will succeed, not in my strength but in my weakness and Jesus strength and peace. I am wondering, today, is there an area of your life that you are trying to change. Are you like me, claiming to give it to Jesus but in your heart, truly thinking that you can handle it? I wonder, would you ask Jesus to be your comfort in place of that thing? I am praying today, that whatever that thing is in your life that gives you comfort, that makes you feel secure or that takes you out of fear, that you will admit your weakness, your sickness and allow the great physician to help you in that area. I am praying that as I send this out to you that you do not feel pity for me, but that you would continue to pray with me, not for freedom, that is mine if I choose to walk in it, but that I would keep my eyes focused on Jesus and all that He is to me so that my victory will be for sure this time. Today is day 11 of my freedom. I will send you updates either good or bad on my progress in this area. I am looking forward to passing the 1 month marker which has been the longest I have survived without running back is 33 years. I am looking forward to 1 year of freedom and 5 years of freedom and expecting that this time, with the help of Jesus, I will be truly free because Jesus said, if you obey me, you shall know the truth and the truth will set you free. Thank you Jesus for helping me to see that sometimes, what I know in my head is not what I know in my heart.
Iam passionate about the love of Jesus and the things that He has done in my life and I am so excited that I have to share with the world what He has done, not only in my life, but in others lives as well.
