A Little Bite of Bread - Pastors are people too

Today I had the opportunity to spend some time in a phone conversation with a dear friend who is a pastor, a counselor and a wonderful man of God. In our conversation, he revealed the depth of his fatigue. He is trying to juggle both the things that are going on in his daily life, while tying to juggle a business and still be able to pastor and give counsel to others. He said "I am just tired". As I was listening to him, I was reminded once again, that pastors are people too. The only difference between the pastors and the congregation is that they do not have many people to talk to about what they face on a daily basis. They are not allowed to have a bad day in the eyes of the congregation and while they have their own life to deal with, they are out in the public eye, shaking hands, offering prayer and giving out the love of God. We go to church on Sunday and watch them preach. We ask them to pray for us. We criticize their messages and critique all of the business of the church, but do we ever think about what is going on in their lives? Do we realize that sometimes they get the feeling, I just can not talk to one more person shake one more hand or find an encouraging word to give today? Do we ever get to a point that we realize that it is not only our right to receive from our pastor but it is also our duty to give back to him. I know, you pay your tithes, but he needs so much more than the dollars we put in the offering bucket. In the writings of Paul in the New Testament, he encourages people many times to pray for him. Romans 15:30 says, "I urge you, brothers, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to join me in my struggle by praying to God for me". Ephesians 6:19 says, Pray also for me, that whenever I open my mouth, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, and Philippians 1:19 Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. If the apostle Paul needed the prayers of the church to help him through, how much more do our pastors need us? Is your Pastor able to rejoice, knowing that you are offering up daily prayers for him? It is my prayer today, that if you have not already started the practice of offering a blessing over the pastor of your church, over the associate pastors of your church and over the pastors that sow words of wisdom and love to you outside of your church, that you would be moved to begin that practice today. It could be a prayer as simple as Lord, I pray that you would bless the Pastor in the way that you know he needs it most. God will answer such a simple prayer in big ways in your pastor's life. And when the Pastor is blessed, all those that are under him are blessed.
Iam passionate about the love of Jesus and the things that He has done in my life and I am so excited that I have to share with the world what He has done, not only in my life, but in others lives as well.
