Finding Girls Golf Scholarshipsby Mary Mitchell Send Feedback to Mary Mitchell girls golf college scholarshipsMore Details about girls golf college scholarships here.
Feature Articles: Girls golf scholarships are both plentiful and underutilized, in fact they're underutilized to the point that hundreds actually go unused every single year. That's right. Every fall when new students flood America's campuses many young women that are incurring massive amounts of debt, working their way through college, or flat out not attending school because of the cost could be comfortably sitting in classrooms as they collect full ride scholarships for playing on university's golf team. If you're wondering why young ladies aren't taking advantage of the money that schools are desperately trying to find someone to take you're asking a very good question. As hard as it is to believe the answer is simply a lack of knowledge about the programs. Women's collegiate golf doesn't get anywhere near the attention many other college sports receive so consequently the idea of a daughter receiving a college golf scholarship doesn't even cross their mind. The truth of the matter is that because of legislation mandating that colleges offer similar numbers of athletic scholarships for men and women universities are being forced to offer scholarships even when there are barely any girls interested enough to fill the spots. What this essentially means is that in many instances there is very little competition for the girls that are going after the abundance of available scholarship money. Girls golf may not attract the tailgating or rapid fans that men's football and basketball do but at the end of the day a full ride scholarship is worth the same amount of money whether you're showcasing Heisman Trophy skills on ESPN or playing leisurely games of golf on peaceful courses. College golf scholarships should be the most sought after women's scholarships based simply on the fact that playing the game well enough to pay for school isn't a matter of being exceptionally tall (volleyball/basketball) or being extraordinarily fast (track). As professional male golfers have been demonstrating for years golfers of all shapes and sizes can excel on the national stage and make a good living doing it even if they don't have the physical builds that most of us associate with the term athlete. If you still have time introduce your daughter to the game of golf as early as possible. Don't burn her out on the experience or cram the game down her throat but make her aware that it's an option and a very fun one that her friends probably don't even know about. In discussing a high school aged girl who occasionally plays but never gave any kind of series thought to playing it college it's suggested that they reevaluate their situation and at the very least contact the athletic departments at colleges their interested in and inquire about eligibility and qualifications. A five minute phone call could realistically open up the door to saving many thousands of dollars on educational expenses. If there's even a remote possibility that playing golf could pay for all of the expenses of going to college reach out to local and regional coaches and golf pros for advice. Put together a recruitment package to send to a wide spectrum of programs. Include in the golf recruiting package documentation of performance in tournaments, a video of the players swing while she's hitting balls as well as a person video introduction, a high school transcript of grades and test scores, and finally letters of recommendation from previous coaches, teachers, or members of the golf community. Be proactive as if applying for a job and this will foster an environment conducive to receiving the optimal result of receiving a girls golf scholarship to the college of your choice.
Mary, the youngest of four children grew up in a modest middle class home in rural Michigan. There was always uncertainty as to how she'd pay for college until her uncle helped her land a girls golf scholarship.
