Joyce Moseley Pierce has been the designated caregiver in her family for as long as she can remember. She watched over her aging grandparents after her father passed away, and later cared for her mother for the last seven years of her life. Along the way, Joyce was busy raising her own family, when one day she realized that no one would have a clue about how to handle personal and financial matters if anything happened to her.
That awakening pushed her to create a workbook that would help her own family. But in talking to others about it, she decided this was something that could benefit anyone. She created Emerson Publications to print and market All They'll Need to Know. It's designed for the head of household to complete, and proves to be an invaluable tool for family members.
"I'm always amazed when I speak to groups about the need to be prepared. Some think that just because they have a will, their families are secure. Others just don't care what happens after they're gone. They figure it's up to someone else to figure out at that point," says Joyce. "I've seen the benefits of someone having their affairs in order. My grandparents had everything set up and the transition was very easy for my sister and me. In contrast, my father had done nothing and it took years to settle his estate. When I talk to people about how important this is, I am speaking from my own personal experience."
Joyce lives in Texas and loves writing. She's a published author for the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" series, and publishes a weekly ezine, Family First, that's filled with her observations on preparedness in any situation. Recently dealing with Hurricane Ike, she tested her own preparedness skills and recorded them on her blog.
