In earlier centuries, window glass or flat glass was made by blowing either large cylinders or large disks. The cylinders were cut apart and flattened and then window panes were cut from the large surface. Most glass for windows up to the early 19th century was made from rondels, while most window glass during the 19th century was made using the cylinder method (these 'cylinders' were 6 to 8 feet (2 to 2.5 m) long and 10 to 14 inches (250 to 350 mm) in diameter).
The flat glass process was patented in 1848 by Henry

The traditional method uses lead came. This is the method used for centuries in Europe, mainly in Religious buildings such as cathedrals, churches and monasteries, and also in aristocratic houses.
An alternative method, replacing the lead came with copper foil, was invented in the 19th century, enabling creation of three-dimensional works, in addition to two-dimensional ones to which the lead came method is limited. The copper foil artwork is commonly called Tiffany stained glass, even though there is a debate about whether John La Farge or Louis Comfort Tiffany invented this alternative to lead came glasswork.

Panther Platform Rentals found themselves risking a sting or two when recently called upon by a leading pest control company to assist with the removal of a bees nest at a Surrey public house. A vehicle mounted 26.5 metre boom was selected to access the roof of The Sutton Arms on Sutton High Street, to remove the nest from the pub’s chimney piece.
Tania Simmons of Panther Platform Rentals said: “After surveying the job and the access required, our team decided that the Z26 was ideal for getting up and over the roof of the three storey building.”
Fortunately, the nest along with the bees was reported to have been moved avoiding any stinging incident!

Art glass normally means the modern art glass movement in which individual artists working alone or with a few assistants to create works from molten glass in relatively small furnaces of a few hundred pounds of glass. It began in the early 1960s and showed continued growth through the end of the century. The glass objects created are not primarily utilitarian but are intended to make a sculptural or decorative statement. On the market, their prices may range from a few hundred to tens of thousands of dollars (US). The best known of the moderns are Dale Chihuly, who uses many of the best independent glass workers to create his large and colorful works and Hans Godo Frabel, who creates his art together with a team of studio glass artists.
