Tenerife Holiday Villas In this article I would like to give an overview of what kind of holiday villas there are in Tenerife, where they are and what to expect of them.

There are number of different categories of holiday properties in Tenerife:

Holiday Fincas. Finca is the Spanish term for a rural house or a complex of houses (farm). In most cases such complexes consist of a main house and several outbuildings previously used for various purposes related to the running of a farm (or finca). These barns and sheds have often been converted to small and medium sized holiday units. A typical example of a converted finca is the El Lance complex in El Tanque near Icod de los Vinos.

Holiday Chalets. The Spanish associate a chalet with an upmarket, larger, quite expensive style of house, often with a swimming pool. As a result holiday chalets, typically, are at the upper end of the pricing scale.

Holiday Villas. Could be any attached townhouse, detached or semi-detached house or a separate house within a finca complex. Holiday villas can be found all over the island, mostly in more rural areas and they tend to be away from the hustle and bustle of the mainstream tourist resorts.

Holiday Cottages. Generally, cottages are renovated small rural houses or converted barns and sheds within finca complexes. Often these cottages have just a single bedroom, open style kitchen and a lounge room and are frequently found in quiet rural surroundings.

Holiday Apartments. This is by far the most popular choice of holiday accommodation on Tenerife and concentrated in the south and west of the island, Las Americas, Los Christianos, Costa del Silencio, Adeje, Los Gigantes and in Puerto de la Cruz in the north.

Rural holidays are becoming more popular and there are quite a few websites offering Tenerife holiday villas in rural locations of the island. There is also a vast offering of hiking and walking tracks for those looking for active holidays. I will introduce some of these walking tracks in another article.
